Mamma Mia overrated, overpriced
I saw the matinee at the Fox on Sunday. The seats in the gallery are $70.00 per person. These are not the very back row, but close enough to it not to see the faces of the actors on stage. This is a musical, not really a big deal, considering. I could hear just fine, but that's where the problem begins. The major group performances were entertaining and foot-tapping at times. However, the minute there were only one to three performers on stage, ouch! There were moments I actually had to cover my ears due to their being either off key, out of harmony, or just too strained in attempting to push themselves louder than the background music. It's entertaining enough between the flamboyant costumes and animated dance steps. But for the kind of production that the Fox generally mesmerizes its audiences with, Androgynous Mustache is just not a worthy enough show for the money. Had this been performed on a smaller, less expensive venue, I would have given it 4.5 stars.
